چکیده
Article history: Received 9 February 2011 Available online 8 July 2011 The current study investigated the role of approach and avoidance motives for unemployed job search behavior. Two approach motives (employment and PJ-fit) and two avoidance motives (low-expectation and low-interest) were distinguished. Antecedents and consequences of these motives were examined using a sample of 303 unemployed clients of reemployment agencies, and obtaining motive ratings from both the unemployed and their counselors. The findings showed that three motives (employment, low-expectation and low-interest) improved the prediction of job search behavior in addition to a set of antecedents that have been widely studied in the literature. In turn, the motives were predicted by different antecedents. The findings suggest that it is important to identify and address unemployed approach and avoidance motives since they might affect reemployment success. © 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Unemployed individuals: motives, job-search competencies, and job-search constraints as predictors of job seeking and reemployment.
This study investigated 3 broad classes of individual-differences variables (job-search motives, competencies, and constraints) as predictors of job-search intensity among unemployed job seekers. Also assessed was the relationship between job-search intensity and reemployment success in a longitudinal context. Results show significant relationships between the predictors employment commitment, ...
متن کاملAfter the Pink Slip: Applying Dynamic Motivation Frameworks to the Job Search Experience
We propose and examine a self-regulatory framework focused on understanding the dynamics of job search intensity and mental health over the first several months of unemployment. We use a repeated-measures design, surveying newly unemployed individuals weekly for 20 weeks. Through the lens of our framework, we test relationships pertaining to the role of motivational “traits” (i.e., temporally s...
متن کاملJob Finding and Inflow to Unemployment : The Case of Iran
In order to analyze the labor market through search and matching theory, we need deep parameters namely, rate of inflow to the unemployment pool and job-finding rate. In other words, these rates are primary parameters of matching function; hence, estimating these parameters is an essential step for the use of search and matching theory in every economy. In this paper, we estimate these rates of...

Conducted process analysis of treatment mediation effects (Judd & Kenney, 1981) on longitudinal data from a large randomized field experiment with 928 recently unemployed persons. The experimental treatment included an intervention that succeeded in promoting quality reemployment outcomes, as described in earlier reports (Caplan et al., 1989; Vinokur et al., 1991). Using Ajzen's theory of plann...
متن کاملStructural Empirical Evaluation of Job Search Monitoring
In this paper we develop a rich model that describes the labor market behavior of both unemployed and employed workers. Our job search models explicitly models endogenous job search effort and accounts for monitoring of job search behavior of unemployed workers. To estimate the model we use data from a randomized experiment conducted in the Netherlands to evaluate the effectiveness of job searc...
